Family
Taking ownership of a house that was nearly condemned in a bitter real estate bidding war, the family has spent over two years designing the perfect house that captures the incredible views of Narragansett Bay and the Newport Bridge; handles the harsh weather elements of the Northeast corridor and building constraints of the Ocean State; stewards sustainable design with environmentally conscious building practices; reinforces their technology driven lifestyle with green products, energy savings, healthy living, and family; and finishes on a budget that any homeowner can live with.
The Hageman family consists of Kimberly (native RI) and Joseph (transplanted by way of TX, WY, CA, NY) and their two children, Abigail (5) and Maxwell (2) and Mattie, their 8-year old west highland terrier. Kim is the owner and founder of a small boutique PR firm in southern Rhode Island, while Joe is a partner in a wine management company based in NJ; always an eco-conscious couple, they decided they wanted their new house to be a reflection of their environmental views while embracing their personal lifestyles. They set about designing the house as they would live but creating a local, regional and national resource to help other families and individuals seeking to live a more eco-friendly life.
This house represents the fulfillment of a dream that is years in the making. Kim and Joe bid on their first home together in this very neighborhood in 2000; they did not get the house nor the eight other houses in Anawan they bid on over the next five years. Finally in 2005, the Hageman's took ownership of 1 South Cliff. Living in Narragansett, with views of the ocean and access to the beaches they love, has been nothing short of a quest.
This is the 6th house the couple has built and/or remodeled; and though each of the past homes have captured some of the elements of this home, this is the first project to converge all of the features of green and smart. Whether working at home or on the road, whether on vacation or at the beach, whether cooking dinner for the four (five) or entertaining family and friends, the family wants the house to be connected, efficient, sustainable and intuitive while capturing the beautiful sunrises and sailboats that dance over Narragansett Bay.
